REVITALIZATION OF TOMBO TURUK TRADITION AT PERANG VILLAGE, MANGGARAI, EAST NUSA TENGGARA

Abstract

Tombo Turuk is a story telling tradition of the people of Manggarai, Flores. The storytellers generally are parents who convey their stories in the local language of Manggarai. The language used is usually smooth, figurative, beautiful and philosophical. The contents of the story vary; there are strories about religious beliefs, socio-historical aspect of human life and about everyday human lives. The Tombo Turuk tradition serves as a medium for the dissemination of local knowledgeand wisdom. It help the formation of morals, beliefs and norms for the younger generation. From the results of the initial survey it was found that this tradition began to erode by changing times. The loss of this tradition is very bad for young people, for the culture and society of the Manggarai. Therefore, there should be efforts to revive of this tradition. This Community Service Program (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat-PkM) on the Revitalization the Tombo Turuk tradition is offered as a solution to overcome the problem of the increasingly disappearing of the tradition. This PkM is carried out with the community in the Village of War, North Satar Mese District, Manggarai Regency. The aim was to revive the love and practice of Tombo Turuk for the villagers. As a result, after efforts to revitalize adults become interested in learning their local stories, delivering stories to the younger generation, collecting various of their local fairy tales. With this PkM, the knowledge, wisdom and local traditions of the Manggarai people can be maintained in order to build the true culture and character of the Manggarai people.
